In a nearly two-hour State of the Union address Tuesday, Donald Trump delivered a highly theatrical performance that cast allies as heroes and Democrats, judges, and immigrants as villains, previewing a combative narrative he is expected to push through the midterm elections. Bob Rae writes that the address signaled a deeper turn toward authoritarian-style politics, heightened global isolation and intensified domestic division. "The biggest lie in this narrative is that as a result of Trump’s impact, the U.S. is stronger and more respected than ever before. The truth is quite the opposite," he wrote.
