Veteran public servant Janice Charette has been tapped to resolve the Canada-U.S. trade file as the chief trade negotiator during the CUSMA review. It may be her toughest job yet, but "she is no stranger to turbulent times," writes Joanna Smith. “You can imagine the number of personalities around a table at cabinet,” says Marci Surkes, former executive director of policy and cabinet affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office who is now chief strategy officer at Compass Rose. “There’s very little over the course of decades of service that she has not experienced in terms of bombast.”
