Canadian Press: Anand taking two different approaches to building 'bridges' with China, India
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will visit India and China in mid-October, stressing that “our relationship with each of these countries is separate and we are approaching them very differently.” On India, Anand said Canada is pursuing a “step-by-step approach” to rebuilding ties after last year’s diplomatic freeze, noting that “there is a law enforcement dialogue between Canada and India at the officials level, so that the public safety interests of Canada are never overlooked.” Regarding China, Anand said “we will co-operate with China where we can, but challenge them where we must,” as Ottawa seeks to balance trade, climate, and security concerns while resetting the bilateral relationship.
