Canada must invest in adding value to exports, EDC report says
Export Development Canada says Canada can boost economic growth by processing more commodities into higher-value products and integrating Canadian companies into global supply chains. Canada’s economic complexity ranking has fallen from 17th in 1995 to 35th in 2024, highlighting the need for greater investment in manufacturing, technology, infrastructure and mid-sized businesses, the report says. EDC estimates that expanding these capabilities could add nearly $100 billion to Canada’s GDP over the next decade, as companies seek new markets amid U.S. trade tensions and shifting global supply chains.
