Turkey, Ukraine among 8 nations pledging support to Canada-led defence bank
The Canada-led global defence bank moved closer to being established as Ottawa announced it had enlisted support from eight other nations, getting closer to the goal of becoming operational in 2027.
Albania, Belgium, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine all stated their support for the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB), which will be based in Canada, the federal government said.
However, plans for the DSRB may be up against a similar arrangement in Europe.
According to Bloomberg, the U.K., Poland, the Netherlands and Finland said Tuesday they were making “significant progress” on a separate financing initiative called the Multilateral Defense Mechanism, aimed at creating cost efficiencies among fast-rearming European countries. There was some talk that the financial initiatives might merge.
