Industry confidence waning new pipeline will be deemed in national interest: survey

Confidence in a new Canadian oil pipeline receiving fast-tracked federal approval within the next year has fallen, according to an ATB Cormark survey, with 46% of respondents viewing it as probable, down from 52% last fall. Industry participants cited frustration with delays despite a 2025 Alberta-Ottawa energy MOU that outlined support for a West Coast oilsands pipeline tied to the proposed Pathways carbon capture project. Despite skepticism over pipeline progress, respondents were broadly optimistic about the energy sector overall, as a result of higher crude prices, stronger investment sentiment and growing interest in reviving parts of the Keystone XL route.
