Canada is renewing ambitions to build large-scale projects, but Blue Branch CEO Todd Clyde writes that success will depend on investing in communities as much as construction. Drawing on lessons from past resource booms such as Fort McMurray, he argues major developments require housing, health care, childcare and infrastructure to support workers and their families. Without building this “human infrastructure,” he says Canada risks repeating boom-and-bust cycles as it pursues nation-building projects.
