Japan and Canada agreed "to cooperate to maintain stability in financial markets and the global financial system," Japan’s Finance Ministry said after a call between Finance Ministers Katsunobu Kato and François-Philippe Champagne.

Reuters reported they "shared concerns over the series of tariffs implemented by the U.S. government," which have triggered market turmoil. U.S. President Trump’s 104% tariff on Chinese imports was met with China’s vow to raise tariffs "to 84% from Thursday," causing "bond prices tumbling and global stocks falling further."

Japan pledged to work with "the Group of Seven advanced economies and the International Monetary Fund" to calm markets.
