'It's a start:' LNG project makes federal list, but no oil pipeline just yet
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government unveiled its first fast-track major projects list Thursday, including the second phase of the LNG Canada development but no new oil pipelines. Birchcliff Energy CEO Chris Carlsen called it “a start,” but said, “we need to see action.” The $16.5-billion Pathways Alliance carbon capture network wasn’t included but could be added later, with Carney saying it could enable “new growth in the oilsands.” Industry leaders welcomed the LNG move but lamented the lack of an oil pipeline, with Tamarack Valley Energy’s Brian Schmidt warning, “We’re still beholden to the U.S.… The oil egress remains an issue.”
