Former Conservative MP Jeneroux ‘couldn’t sit on the sidelines,’ crosses floor to join Liberals

Alberta MP Matt Jeneroux says economic urgency and national unity concerns drove his decision to cross the floor from the Conservatives to the Liberals. He pointed to the prime minister’s January speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos as a turning point, saying it underscored the scale of Canada’s national unity and economic challenges. “For me, it felt disingenuous and simply wrong to be sitting on the sidelines any more,” Jeneroux said. Carney confirmed that Jeneroux has been appointed a special adviser on economic and security partnerships, citing his experience in international engagement, parliamentary diplomacy, and trade and security co-operation. Jeneroux’s defection makes him the third Conservative to join the Liberals in just over three months.
