CFIB report says small business confidence fell in September

Small business confidence in Canada fell in September, according to a new report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. Three-month and 12-month optimism indexes dropped 10 points, while current business health also declined. Price increase plans rose to 3.3%, while hiring remained weak, with more businesses planning layoffs (16%) than hiring (13%). Fuel costs were the top constraint on business growth, cited by 62% of small businesses, followed by product and raw material costs at 42% each.
