Bloomberg: Canadians’ Job Security Gets Shakier as Trade War Harms Growth
Canadians are increasingly pessimistic about their job prospects, with fewer than 60% now saying their jobs are “secure” or “somewhat secure,” according to a Bloomberg News poll by Nanos Research — the lowest level in over a year. “About 30% say they’re unsure,” marking the highest proportion since 2023 as the labour market softens and the unemployment rate climbs to 7%, the highest since 2016 outside the pandemic. Analysts say this weakening job outlook is “one reason traders are pricing in another rate cut from the Bank of Canada” after it lowered its policy rate to 2.75% from 5%.
