Canadian manufacturers issue a call to turn trade crisis into opportunity
Canadian manufacturers are being urged to turn trade tensions with the U.S. into an opportunity by investing in new technology, modernizing production and strengthening the skilled workforce needed to remain globally competitive. Ottawa’s push to expand domestic defence manufacturing is creating new opportunities, including a $2-billion plan to purchase 190 armoured vehicles from General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada and strengthen Canadian supply chains. The push comes as business investment remains a weak spot in Canada’s economy, although increased government spending on defence, infrastructure, energy, AI and transportation could help spur private-sector investment.
