Calgary Chamber warns immigration changes could worsen Alberta’s labour shortage

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce warned that proposed changes to Alberta’s immigration policies could worsen labour shortages and hinder economic growth as businesses prepare for a surge in major investments. A new chamber report found that 65% of businesses are struggling to find workers, while 47% of surveyed members believe recent or proposed immigration changes would negatively affect their operations. The chamber is urging the province to maintain immigration pathways, improve foreign credential recognition and invest in workforce training, emphasizing that immigration will be critical to meeting future labour demands and supporting Alberta’s economic expansion.
