Carmichael: Canada needs to be bold. Instead, it keeps muddling along
Despite a wave of proposed policy solutions — from industrial strategies to tax overhauls and trade agreements — Kevin Carmichael writes that Canada's deep-rooted risk aversion is the true barrier to economic resilience. A new “bold ambition” index from charity Shift Canada, conducted with Nanos Research, scored Canadian boldness at just 51.5 out of 100, describing the result as “relatively weak.” The findings suggest that without a fundamental cultural shift toward risk-taking and entrepreneurial ambition, no top-down policy fix will be enough to transform the country's struggling economy. “How do you change a culture? It’s an urgent question because of the moment we’re in,” Carmichael writes.
