Most Canadians Want Netflix, Disney to Pay for Local Content
Nearly three-quarters of Canadians support requiring streaming giants such as Netflix and Disney+ to financially contribute to Canadian content, according to a Nanos poll conducted for Bloomberg News. The survey found that 73% backed applying the same funding rules to streamers as to Canadian broadcasters, up from 67% in 2022, with support reaching 85% in Quebec. The measure faces strong opposition from the Trump administration and Hollywood studios, as Canada reviews regulations that would require streamers to spend 15% of their annual Canadian revenue on local content.
