Financial Post: How the trade war is turning into a tourism win for Canada

As U.S.-Canada tensions rise, Statistics Canada reports “a significant rise in domestic travel” and a “decline in Canadian-resident trips to the United States.” While American visits have dropped, Canada’s tourism sector is seeing gains from patriotic locals and “an increase in visitors from outside North America.” Desjardins principal economist Sonny Scarfone called it “a bit of a silver lining,” noting that “Canadians have shifted their travel preferences, which is benefiting the local tourism economy.” TD Economics expects tourism spending in Canada to grow in the range of two to four percent in 2025.
