Carney names Dominic Barton as chair of Invest in Canada, replaces CEO
Prime Minister Mark Carney appointed former ambassador Dominic Barton as board chair of Invest in Canada and Gurinder Grewal as CEO ahead of a major foreign investment summit in Toronto. Barton, a former McKinsey executive and current Rio Tinto chair, previously advised the Liberal government and served as Canada’s ambassador to China, while Grewal brings investment experience across energy, infrastructure, industrial and technology sectors. “He’s extremely competent, deeply curious, always keen to learn, has an extensive global network and has a remarkable capacity to focus and strategize toward achieving outcomes,” Michael Kovrig told Politico. The changes come after CEO Laurel Broten’s early resignation and as the government prepares to attract new foreign investment, with the Prime Minister’s Office and other government agencies reportedly taking the lead in organizing the summit.
