Canadian ambassador to U.S. downplays July 1 urgency of CUSMA negotiations

Speaking at the Canadian Club in Toronto, Wiseman downplayed concerns about the July 1 CUSMA renewal deadline, emphasizing that the trade agreement would remain in force until 2036 even if an extension is not immediately reached. Despite recent comments from U.S. President Donald Trump criticizing the pact, Wiseman said he remains optimistic about negotiations and noted that officials from all three countries continue to support the agreement’s core framework.
