Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is demanding the federal government scrap its temporary foreign worker program, arguing rising youth unemployment proves “they are being taken advantage of by Liberal corporate leaders who want to use them to drive down wages.” At a news conference in Mississauga, he accused the Liberals of breaking a cap by issuing 105,000 permits in just six months. Immigration officials disputed that claim, saying Poilievre’s figure “does not represent new arrivals to the country” and that only 33,722 new workers entered Canada through the program between January and June 2025.
