Globe and Mail: Ontario to pause anti-tariff ads that drew Trump’s fury

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the province will continue running ads featuring former U.S. president Ronald Reagan speaking about the negative impacts of tariffs through the weekend during the World Series, but will pause them on Monday so that trade negotiations can resume. This follows after Donald Trump’s social media post that Canada-U.S. trade talks were over because of the ad the Ontario government is running on U.S. media. The Reagan Foundation said the ad “misrepresents” the late president’s speech and that Ontario “did not seek nor receive permission” to use it. Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded on social media that Canada and the United States “are friends, neighbours and allies,” linking to Reagan’s full address.
