Althia Raj digs into Canada’s auto industry in her latest It’s Political podcast. Union leader John D’Agnolo said workers in Windsor are gripped by “anxiety” over U.S. tariffs and fears that “they’re going to take our jobs away.” Former Toyota Canada executive Stephen Beatty warned that Donald Trump’s tariff and subsidy strategy is “putting a lot of pressure on… manufacturers to pull that manufacturing back into the United States,” while economist Jim Stanford said Canadian auto exports to the U.S. are already down 15% this year. Stanford cautioned that without firm government action to enforce job guarantees and trade commitments, “we’re starting to see those decisions being made” to shift production south, threatening what was once one of Canada’s most important industries.
