Armstrong: Pressure is building on Donald Trump as tariffs bite deeper into American manufacturing

Peter Armstrong reports that “pressure is growing on the Trump administration” to end the escalating trade war that is hitting key U.S. industries. American farmers, automakers and bourbon producers are “clamouring for bailouts” and tariff relief, with Ford’s CEO Jim Farley saying tariffs have created a “$2 billion headwind, which prevents me from investing even more in the U.S.” Meanwhile, experts warn that the U.S. economy is “softening under the weight of the administration’s tariffs,” and as Clark Packard of the Cato Institute puts it, “the Trump administration is clearly looking for ways to mitigate damage done by retaliatory tariffs,” making trade peace increasingly in America’s own interest.
