Ottawa cannot keep giving mixed signals to Canada’s energy sector

Business leaders Deborah Yedlin and Lisa Baiton say Canada must accelerate oil and natural gas development and pipeline construction to drive economic growth, strengthen sovereignty and expand geopolitical influence amid global trade disruptions. They warn that proposed federal methane rules and changes to industrial carbon pricing could deter investment, add billions in costs and undermine Canada’s competitiveness as an energy producer. The pair argue that swift regulatory clarity and infrastructure expansion are essential to diversify export markets, unlock capital and secure long-term economic resilience.
