Bloomberg: Carney to Unveil Budget Nov. 4 With ‘Substantial’ Deficit

The government will unveil its long-delayed budget on Nov. 4, Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne announced Tuesday in Parliament. The fiscal plan will outline Prime Minister Mark Carney’s push to increase spending on defence, housing and infrastructure, with economists projecting a deficit of about $70 billion, or more than 2% of GDP. “This is going to be a generational investment in our future,” Champagne said, adding the government aims to “build the strongest economy in the G-7” despite the budget gap driven by the ongoing trade war with the U.S.
